FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 13, 2025) – The Northern Arizona track and field teams are back in action this week, spreading across the country for different meets.
The distance runners will be on hand at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., from Feb. 14-15 while the sprinters, jumpers and throwers will compete at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

In Albuquerque,
Luke Yruretagoyena will represent NAU in the invitational section of both the 400 and the 200-meters. He currently ranks third in the Big Sky in the 400-meters with a time of 47.65, the eighth-fastest time in program history, and will be making his Lumberjack debut in the 200.
NAU occupies two of the top five spots in the men's 60-meter hurdles in the Big Sky, with
Shon Martin (4
th, 8.09) and
Josiah Johnson (5
th, 8.13). Both will be on hand in the event and look to improve their times on Saturday morning.
Khamis Hassan will be representing Northern Arizona in the men's 60-meter dash invitational.
Shanye Harris has the top time in the conference in the 60-meters, a school record time of 7.44 that she will look to improve in the 60-meter dash invitational section on Saturday. Harris will also race in the 200-meters.
Also in the women's sprints is
Kyairra Reigh who owns the fastest 400-meter time in the conference at 54.27. She will race in the invitational section of the 400-meters.
LiNay Perry ran the fourth-fastest time in the conference (54.46) at the Ron Mann Classic and will compete in the 400-meter dash invitational.
Sydnie Watkins, who boasts the second-fastest 60-meter hurdle time in the Big Sky, will compete in the event on Saturday morning.
NAU boasts one of the best men's weight throw crews in the conference and the country.
Garret Bernt ranks first in the Big Sky with a mark of 22.62-meters, followed by
Desmond Lott (22.39m). The two own the top two best performances in program history and will be competing in the event on Friday.
Nikolas Strait has the fifth-farthest throw in the Big Sky (18.88m).
The women are strong in the weight throw as well, with
Sariyah Horne-Kemp owning the third best mark in the conference (18.67m). Lott also has the top shot put mark in the Big Sky (17.32m) and will compete in the event on Saturday.
In the men's jumps,
Ian Lipsey ranks fourth in the long jump (7.08m) while
Sirr Butler has the second farthest jump in the Big Sky in the triple jump (14.80m).
The women's distance medley relay team will get things started in the invitational section on Friday afternoon.
Keira Moore,
Ali Upshaw,
Ava Mitchell,
Emma Stutzman, Nikia Moore and
Hayley Burns will then toe the line the 3,000 meters and
Alexis Kebbe and
Anna Fenske will run the 5,000-meters to wrap up women's competition for the day.
The men's 3,000-meters will be full of Lumberjacks with
Cael Grotenhuis,
Kang Nyoak,
Santiago Prosser,
Ford Washburn,
Drew Bosley,
Colin Sahlman and
David Mullarkey all entered in the event. Sahlman (8:02.34), Mullarkey (8:02.87) and Washburn (8:03.75) all rank first through third in the Big Sky in the event while Nyoak is eighth.
Wrapping up the evening,
Zack Munson,
Erik Le Roux,
Randy Espinoza and Jeret Gillingham will compete in the 5,000-meters.
The mile gets things stared on Saturday morning for the women with
Keira Moore. Later in the day,
Maggi Congdon, Alex Carlson and
Agnes McTighe will all compete in the invitational section of the mile. Carlson currently has the fastest mile time in the conference (4:27.20) which is also the fourth-fastest time in the country. McTighe owns the third fastest time in the Big Sky.
NAU will also have three runners in the women's 3,000-meters invitational section in
Elise Stearns,
Alyson Churchill and
Karrie Baloga.
Odessa Zentz will compete in the 800-meters.
For the men, the mile will be stacked with
Aidan Puffer,
Caleb Easton,
Santiago Prosser,
Kang Nyoak and Clayton Shivley all entered. Washburn and Sahlman will also race the 800-meters.
Northern Arizona will be back in action with the final regular season home meet of the year next week on Friday, Feb. 21 for the NAU Tune-Up.
