Nine Lumberjacks Punch Tickets to NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 13, 2025) – The 2025 indoor track and field season will continue for nine Northern Arizona track and field athletes, as they have punched tickets to the NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships.

Drew Bosley (3,000-meters), Desmond Lott (weight throw), Colin Sahlman (mile, 3,000-meters), Alex Carlson (mile, DMR), Maggi Congdon (mile, DMR), Agnes McTighe (DMR), Kyairra Reigh (DMR), Elise Stearns (3,000-meters, 5,000-meters) and Ali Upshaw (5,000-meters) have all placed in the top-16 in the entire nation of Division I athletes to qualify.

The championships run from Friday, March 14 to Saturday, March 15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Both the men's and women's championships are held simultaneously. They will be streamed on ESPN+.

Sahlman will be making his second career appearance at the indoor national championships, as he took sixth in the mile in 2023-24. This season, he's qualified for two events and ranks in the top ten in both. Sahlman also had the eighth fastest 800-meter time in the country this season, but opted to run in the 3k and mile. He enters the 3,000-meters with the seventh best time of 7:37.59 when altitude adjusted, which he ran at the NAU Tune Up. Sahlman also ran 7:40.41 at the Husky Classic, which ranks fifth all-time in NAU history.

This season, Sahlman set Big Sky Conference records in the 800-meters and the mile. He clocked 1:46.40 in the 800-meters at the Husky Classic, winning the event, and ran 3:52.82 in the mile at the BU Terrier Classic. His 800-meter time is the eighth fastest in the field and his mile time ranks ninth. At the Big Sky Championships, Sahlman placed first in 800-meters, mile, 4x400-meters and the DMR – he did not compete in the 3,000-meters.

The men's mile semifinal is set for 4 p.m. Mountain Standard time on March 14 with the final set for 3 p.m. MST on Saturday. The 3,000-meters will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Joining Sahlman in the 3,000-meters is Bosley, who will be making his fourth career indoor national championship meet appearance. In 2021-22, he placed fifth in the 5,000-meters and followed with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meters and third place finish in the 5,000-meters in 2022-23. Last season, he competed in the DMR where the 'Jacks placed 11th.

He enters with the eighth fastest time in the event of 7:38.06 when altitude adjusted, also ran at the NAU Tune Up. He also ran 7:41.47 this season at the Husky Classic. His personal best is 7:36.42 which is a previous NCAA record and still stands as an NAU and Big Sky Conference record. At the Big Sky Championships, Bosley was named Most Valuable Athlete after winning both the 3,000 and the 5,000-meters.

Lott qualified for the championships in the weight throw on his very last attempt of finals at the Big Sky Championships. He tossed 22.83-meters to win the event and set a meet record, now ranking second all-time in program history. He also won the shot put with a toss of 18.43-meters which is third in NAU history.

He is making his first-ever appearance at the national championships, but this is the second-straight year a 'Jack has qualified in the weight throw, as Garret Bernt placed third last season. Bernt just missed out on this year's championships, as his mark of 22.62 meters ranked just outside the top-16, ranking 18th.

The weight throw takes place on Friday, March 14 at 3:05 p.m. MST.

Earlier this season at the Husky Classic, McTighe, Reigh, Carlson and Congdon clocked the third-fastest time in collegiate history in the DMR, running to 10:39.44 to place third in the field. The quartet crushed the previous Northern Arizona and Big Sky Conference record of 11:13.18 that was set by Katja Rosenplaenter, Monique Young, Elin Wiik and Johanna Nilsson in 2006.

Carlson and Congdon have the 13th and 14th fastest times in the women's mile, with Carlson coming in at 4:27.20 and Congdon clocking 4:27.77. The duo rank first and second in program history and are the only Lumberjacks to ever break 4:30 in the women's mile.

Stearns and Upshaw have traded school and conference records in the 5,000-meters this season. Upshaw set the record at 15:27.86 at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 7 before Stearns took the record back at the BU John Terrier Classic with a time of 15:21.43. They enter with the 10th and 16th fastest times in the field.

Stearns will also toe the line in the 3,000-meters where she has the third-fastest time of 8:41.07 which is a Big Sky and school record.
