Lumberjack Men’s Tennis has Strong Showing at ITA Bedford Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 28, 2025) – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team competed in the ITA Bedford Cup this weekend at the United States Air Force Academy, with NAU reaching the Semifinals in both doubles and singles action.
In doubles, Daniel Tens and Ivan Perisic competed their way into the semifinals. The duo took down Weber State's Theo Mottier and William Zulch by a break, 6-4 in the round of 16 to open. In the quarterfinals, Perisic and Tens won by the same scoreline, beating BYU pair Brennon Chow and Otto Schreiner. The run for the Lumberjack duo came to an end in the semis, as they fell to the Denver doubles team of Theo Coats and Connor Robb-Wilcox, 6-2.
Takumi Katsuda and Vincent Vohl collected the other win in doubles for NAU, coming against Roko Stipetic and Ricardo Marcado of New Mexico State in a tight, 7-5 decision. Katsuda and Vohl lost in the second round, 6-3, to Denver's Aaron Beduhn and Tom Noltorp.
Tens continued his strong play in singles as well, by making the semifinals in his bracket. The freshman started his campaign by getting a statement win over Air Force's Caden Lee, collecting a bagel in the second set, 7-5, 6-0. Tens beat Big Sky foe Xavier Martin of Idaho in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. He then fell in the semifinals in straight sets to Utah State's Dmitri Goubin, 6-0, 6-3.
Kai Mills suffered two losses in singles, both coming in straight sets to a score of 6-2, 6-2. The Surprise, Arizona native then bounced back and finished with a thrilling win over Montana State's Ethan Masselis, 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
Perisic got two wins in singles, with both of them coming against Big Sky opponents. The first victory was against Idaho's Noe Del Col, in a match that came down to a third set tiebreak with a final scoreline of 6-2, 4-6, 10-7. The second win was against Mottier, which Perisic won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5).
Katsuda also got two wins in his singles matches. He took his first match of the weekend, beating Robb-Wilcox in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16. The senior fell in the quarterfinals, but was able to pull off a win in three sets in his final match of the weekend. A third-set tiebreak pushed Katsuda past AJ More to a score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.
NAU will continue the fall campaign at another ITA Tournament when it travels to the ITA Regional Championships in Las Vegas, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 15.
