NAU Men's Basketball Hits the Road for Pair of Games at Idaho State, Weber State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 3, 2026) – Winner of two of its last three, Northern Arizona men's basketball begins a road-heavy final stretch of the regular season with a pair of games at Idaho State and Weber State, this Thursday and Saturday respectively, at 7 p.m. MST.

Mitch Strohman tips-off the action on the Northern Arizona Healthcare NAU Lumberjack Radio Network with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m. MST. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

NAU plays five of its final eight regular season games on the road, where the Lumberjacks remain on the search for their first victory this season. NAU is 8-5 at home, but is winless in 10 games away from Flagstaff.

The Lumberjacks (8-15, 2-8 Big Sky) do head on the road with momentum having won two of their last three games. Following victories against Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington, which put an end to NAU's 0-7 start to league play, the Lumberjacks had their two-game win streak snapped last Saturday to Idaho with a 79-62 loss.

Karl Poom has scored in double-figures in six of the last seven games, including a team-high 13 points on Saturday against the Vandals. Poom is averaging 14.3 points per game during this stretch and a team-high 10.8 points in conference games.

With Poom handling the paint, the arc has opened up for NAU, which ranks 22nd in the nation in 3-point percentage as a team, shooting at a 37.9% clip. Although the Lumberjacks are incredibly effective behind the arc, leading the Big Sky in 3-point percentage, they are only eighth with 7.5 makes per game and last with 19.7 attempts per game.

Over the last three games though, NAU is averaging 9.0 pointers made and 20.5 attempts behind the arc, shooting 43.9% as a team.

Brennan Peterson, Chris Komin, Diego Campisano and Isaiah Shaw are all shooting better than 40.0% in conference play with at least one 3-point make per game.

NAU also received contributions from Kavon Bradford last week, who averaged 10.5 points in two games versus Eastern Washington and Idaho.

This week's road trip represents the second season meeting between NAU and Idaho State and Weber State. Both teams defeated NAU in Flagstaff on Jan. 8 and Jan. 10 respectively. The Lumberjacks are looking for their third straight road win in Pocatello against the Bengals, while they are hoping to pick up their first win in Ogden since 2015, having lost 11 straight road games to the Wildcats.

Idaho State faces a quick turnaround after falling to Portland State, 88-65, on the road on Monday. The loss was the Bengals' fifth consecutive since opening conference play with a 3-2 record. Idaho State is 10-13 overall and 3-7 in Big Sky games.

Idaho State continues to lead the Big Sky in blocks per game at 4.4 and ranks in the top 100 in rebounding margin (3.8). The Bengals are averaging 74.5 points per game and allowing 80.5 in league games.

Jamison Guerra led the Bengals with 22 points and six assists in Idaho State's win in Flagstaff on Jan. 10. Guerra is averaging 12.3 points and 4.6 assists per game in conference play.

Weber State fell in a high-scoring contest, 104-90, at Sacramento State on Monday. The Wildcats (11-12, 5-5 Big Sky) have lost four of their last five games with their lone win coming against Idaho State, 81-79, last Saturday.

The Wildcats are the second-highest scoring team in league play, averaging 82.1 points per game, but they also allow the second-most points per game at 82.3. Weber State is shooting 38.3% from 3-point range, just better than NAU's 37.9% clip, in conference play. For the season, the Wildcats are 60th nationally in 3-point percentage (.363).

Five Wildcats scored in double-figures, led by Viljami Vartiainen's 16 points, in the first meeting against NAU. Tijan Saine Jr., who scored 15 points against the Lumberjacks, is the Big Sky's leading scorer in conference games at 21.2 points per game.
