FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team will compete against Brigham Young University and the University of Utah in their second weekend of season action. The Lumberjacks are currently 1-0 on the season after defeating New Mexico 4-3, opening the season with a win for the first time in seven years.
The 'Jacks will first travel to Provo, Utah Friday, Feb. 2 to take on BYU at 5 :30 p.m. before facing Utah in Salt Lake City Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
Highlight Reel
- Last season the Lumberjacks finished on top as the 2017 Big Sky Regular Season champions for the first time in 35 years after recording an 15-8 overall record and 10-1 conference mark.
- As of Nov. 15, doubles pair Tim Handel and Ruben Montano are nationally ranked No. 53.
- As of Nov. 15, Handel is the only Big Sky men's tennis athlete to be nationally ranked at No. 116.

The BYU Cougars are currently on a five match winning streak including two wins over Big Sky opponents Weber State and Montana State. The Cougars will host Northern Arizona and Boise State this Friday and Saturday, respectively. The 12-man roster is led by head coach Brad Pearce who is entering his 14
th season. Last season the Cougars went 13-12 overall, including a 4-2 win over the 'Jacks, finishing third in the West Coast Conference.
University of Utah

George S. Eccles Tennis Center | Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah will host Pacific and Northern Arizona this weekend in a double header. The Utes are currently 5-1 overall and undefeated at home 4-0. They are coming off of a 5-2 loss, their first of the season, against Harvard University. The 10-man roster is led by head coach Roeland Brateanu, who is in his fourth season after being named the ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year. Last season Northern Arizona fell to Utah 5-1 on the road.

The Lumberjacks will head south to face the University of Arizona and University of Nebraska in Tucson Saturday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. Northern Arizona will continue on their 12-match season-opening road trip before they compete for the first time at home Mar. 17.
