FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 4, 2021) - The Lumberjacks are heading back to Flagstaff after the weekend Wildcat Invite in Tucson. Facundo Tumosa, and Eban Straker-Meads are heading into the doubles draw of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma after finishing up with singles play.Â
Overall NAU brought home twelve total singles wins at the Wildcat Invite, highlighting the tournament for the 'Jacks is Senior Daniel Dillon. Dillon took four straight wins in the singles gray draw, naming Dillon the champion of the gray draw after taking the win against New Mexico State's Corey Clarke (6-4, 6-4). Dillon's first three wins came against GCU's Grzegorz Rudnicki (6-2, 7-6, [7-3]), Gonzaga's Theo Mcdonald (6-2, 6-4), and New Mexico's Nicolas Prieto.Â
Bringing home the eight other wins for NAU is Joachim Shaefer (2), Mikael Purne (1), Alex Groves (2), Dominik Buzonics (2), Marcus Sulen (1).Â
In doubles play at the Wildcat Invite, the Lumberjacks took seven overall wins. Joachim Shaefer and Marcus Sulen saw two wins in doubles play. Morgan Donovan and Mikael Purne added two wins for NAU, along with Daniel Dillon and Chris Steele's two wins. The doubles duo Buzonics and Groves gained one win on the weekend.
In Tulsa Oklahoma, Maciej Ziomber alongside Tumosa and Straker-Meads competed in the singles draw of the tournament. Ziomber brings home a win against Texas A&M's Stefan Storch (6-4, 4-6 [10-4]).Â
Straker-Meads made it to the fourth round of the singles draw, taking wins against Illinois State's Diego Le Gal Perez (6-3, 7-5), Cleveland State's Mikael Erler (6-2, 6-3), and San Diego State's Joe Tyler (6-3, 6-2). Straker-Meads and Tumosa faced national champion Florida Gators' Mattias Siimar and Abedallah Shelbayh, ultimately falling in the match 4-6, 7-6, 8-10.Â
The Lumberjacks look towards the Spring slate now, preparing for preseason and conference matches.Â
