PROVO, Utah (September 23, 2021) – Through three days of tournament play, the Lumberjacks have put up some impressive wins in the ITA Mountain Regionals.
Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa found early success in the doubles draw after a first round bye, the duo got the win against UNLV's Zach Garner and Tom Ciszewski (8-4) on Tuesday. Wednesday the doubles pair headed into the third round, where they faced Denver's Daniel Krulig and Matt Summers, taking an 8-7(7) win.
Straker-Meads and Tumosa took on BYU's duo Mathues Leite and Jack Barnett in the quarterfinals matchup this morning, winning with a score of 8-3. Today's win sends the pair to the semifinals that will take place tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. MST, Straker-Meads and Tumosa will face Denver's James Davis and Matt Summers. Davis and Summers were announced as the 20th doubles pair in the nation in the ITA preseason poll two weeks ago.
Straker-Meads made it to the fourth round in the singles main draw play, after a first round bye and then going on to defeat UNLV's Zach Garner (6-3, 6-4) in the second round. Straker-Meads got the 7-6 (5) win against Boise State's Luka Soskic, advancing to the fourth round where he fell to Utah's Francisco Bastias (6-2, 7-5).
Bringing in four more wins for the Lumberjacks in the singles draw is Maciej Ziomber, Dominik Buzonics, and Alex Groves. After a first round bye for Ziomber, he clinched the win against Weber State's Elyes Marouani (6-3, 7-5). Buzonics, adding two wins of his own, took a round one win against Weber State's Chia Chieh Lin and a round two win to Idaho State's Patrik Trhac. Groves recorded a first round win over Air Force Academy's Luke Wolf.
