NAU Seeks to Extend Winning Streak with Two Matches this Weekend

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 5, 2026) - The Northern Arizona men's tennis team looks to extend a three-match win streak in a pair of matches this weekend at home against the No. 71 Denver Pioneers and the Portland State Vikings. Opening serve against Denver is on Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m. MST and against the Vikings on Sunday, March 8 at 11 a.m. MST.

There will be a raffle for an NAU Tennis T-Shirt on Saturday, as well as pizza for fans while supplies last. Community hours will follow both matches of the weekend, with an NAU Tennis Beanie raffle on Sunday as well.

NAU's trio of wins began on the road in Colorado Springs, Colo. when the Lumberjacks beat Gardner-Webb and Air Force. The Jacks most recently claimed their first Big Sky victory of the season, 6-1, over Idaho State at home last weekend to stand at 1-0 in conference action and 7-4 overall.

The Pioneers enter this matchup ranked the No. 71 team in the nation. The Lumberjacks are no stranger to the Pioneers as they have faced each other three times in the last five seasons. Denver won the last match in 2025, beating the Lumberjacks 2-5 in Denver. The Pioneers will be the fourth ranked opponent NAU has faced this season.

NAU has lost to the Vikings only three out of the 17 times they have faced each other, with the latest loss coming in 2020 by a score of 4-3. Since then, it has been utter domination from the Lumberjacks as they have allowed the Vikings just three points, including complete sweeps in three matches.

Portland State has four wins, with its most recent being in Big Sky play against the Montana Bobcats, where they won by the score line of 4-3. This will be the third match of the weekend for the Vikings as they will play a double header against Grand Canyon on Saturday in Phoenix.
